nurses’s attitude and behaviour

1-DQ 1 I think a hospital community day in schools is a great idea! When I was in high school, universities would come give presentations and provide information for us to consider choosing them for college and in turn, some had succeeded in “recruiting” some of my classmates. I imagine there may be hospitals or health care facilities that do this but if there were an increase in number of them and greater outreach, this could lead to enlightment for students and could in turn mend the nursing shortage problem we have today.

2-Observing that many persons do not use social media is true and this points to the the fact that nurses’s attitude and behaviour towards the profession and populace contibutes to the public image of the profession. The impression people have of us is directly related to our actions and inactions.

3-Very good discussion post!  In the largely negative world of television drama as it depicts nursing, I like how you found some instances that do have some positive views on nursing.  I also like how you found an organization that promotes the nursing profession in light of the widely popular media portrayals.  I find that while the medical television dramas that are on today are intriguing, they are typically wrong in the portrayal of the health care field and it is important to have accurate information available.  I myself like to watch the shows and tell the t.v. when they are wrong!

Structure of Health Insurance

Structure of Health Insurance

The present health care system relies on public and private health  insurance systems. On the basis of your understanding of the health  insurance system, answer the following questions:

  • Explain the basic structure of health insurance and analyze its most  important part. Describe the main purpose of health insurance in your  own words.
  • What impact do you think health insurance has on our economy today?
  • Explain why managed care was incorporated in the US health care  system long ago? Describe and contrast the three types of managed care  plans—HMOs, PPOs, and POS?.
  • Should the same individuals who pay for your health care (managed  care organizations [MCOs]) also make your treatment decisions? Why or  why not?
  • Is the fee-for-service (FFS) system more beneficial for the consumer than the current MCO system? Why or why not? Explain.

Dissemination

Dissemination of research findings in the clinical nursing literature occurred at two levels: through articles that reported studies of potential value to the nurse’s practice and citations to research publications within articles. Relevance to clinical practice. Disseminating research in journals that are geared to clinicians is essential to increase nurses’ awareness of research findings that might be relevant to their practice (Oermann, Nordstrom, Wilmes, Denison, Webb, Featherston, & Kowalewski, 2008). The American Association of Critical Care Nurses Journal would be a great place to present my project because the success of ventilator associated pneumonia (VAP) bundles in preventing ventilator associated pneumonia largely depends on the knowledge and cooperation of critical care nurses. Educating them will bring awareness to the difference that they as nurses can make. Over 100,000 nurses and nursing students currently subscribe to The American Association of Critical Care Nurses Journal. The National Teaching Institute & Critical Care Exposition would be a good conference to discuss my project because the conference focuses on evidence based practices and has critical care nurses from around the country and beyond. It is a good way to educate but also a great place to learn from others in the same field. The exposition also allows nurses to collect CE hours for attendance so this will add an extra incentive for nurses to participate. The conference offer more than education; it also offers an environment for support and inspiration. Nurses come with an open mind ready to learn and getting nurses to understand the need for change is half the battle.

thoughts or images arise as you read these words?

Empathy, motivation, self– and social awareness—what thoughts or images arise as you read these words? These terms relate to skills for understanding, expressing, and managing emotions in self and others, which are attributes of emotional intelligence.

Research frequently demonstrates the importance of emotional intelligence for leaders and managers. In health care, nursing leaders who demonstrate emotional intelligence can positively influence organizational outcomes by contributing to improved nurse retention, increased job satisfaction, and better health outcomes for patients (Codier, Muneno, Franey, & Matsuura, 2010).

To further your self–knowledge, you examine your own emotional intelligence and consider strategies for developing this important leadership characteristic.

To Prepare

  • Review the leaning resources for Week 10. There are 2 tests that are available to you to assess your personal Emotional Intelligence. Take both the tests and consider your personal attributes of emotional intelligence..
  • Identify strategies for developing any areas of opportunity or areas for enhancing your emotional intelligence. What do you need to do to achieve or sustain a high level of performance in this area?
  • Also consider how to work with leaders who do not demonstrate strong emotional intelligence (EI) or whose EI strengths differ from yours. Include these strategies as well.

To Complete

Write a 2– to 3–page paper that describes the results of your emotional intelligence assessment and include your strategies for developing your EI. Be sure to refer to your week 10 resources to develop these strategies and of course cite any references that you use. Also consider how to work with leaders who do not demonstrate strong emotional intelligence (EI) or whose EI strengths differ from yours. Include these strategies as well. Refer to your assignment rubic for grading criteria.

  • Framework three consists of key stakeholders in the process.

In this assignment, you will focus on the government’s health’s  immunization laws that were passed to protect children from infectious  diseases.

Using South University Online Library or the Internet, search  articles on the frameworks of study of health policy and law in the  areas of immunization of children.

On the basis of your research and your understanding, write a 3- to  4-page APA formatted essay in a Microsoft Word document. Your essay  should cover all the three frameworks mentioned above. You need to pick  one of the three stakeholders from both framework one and two. Use a  minimum of five stakeholders for framework three.

breastfeeding

The first step would be to enquire and try to ascertain why the mother is reluctant to breastfeeding her child. Apparently, the nurse should approach the mother without any judgmental attitude to enable the mother to open up. It through the discussion with the mother that the patient is likely to ascertain the reason why the mother is not interested in breastfeeding the child. Usually, embarrassment, cultural norms, and lactation problems are some of the major causes that cause barriers to breastfeeding (Rollins et al. 2016).

In case a mother is avoiding breastfeeding due to issues such as embarrassment, the nurse should educate the mother on the importance of breastfeeding to both the mother and the child. In most cases, especially new mothers, they lack proper information about the importance of breastfeeding. The nurse should also address the potentially hazardous effects of formula –feeding to the mother. It is after taking the mother through the information that the mother should conclude. Breastfeeding is a personal decision and should be left entirely to the mother after being fed with all the relevant information.

Despite the choice, the mother chooses as a nurse one should be able to give directions on what the mother should do after that and the proper ways of feeding the child. For instance, the nurse should be able to tell the mother the best formula- feeding food for the infant. Where a mother reverses her decision and chooses to breastfeed the nurse should advise on the position and the best duration that is recommended by the doctors which are usually the critical first six months (Kalhoff & Kersting 2017)

Comment 2

As the nurse performing the health assessment of a newborn, I will start of by acknowledging the mother’s fear and feelings. I will inform the mother that such feeling in the beginning is normal, however I will also educate the mother the importance of breastfeeding. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), breastfeeding reduces mortality rate and has health benefits that extends throughout the babie’s lifespan. Breastmilk being the natural food for babies, it is very rich in nutrients and antioxidants that helps the newborn acquire nutrients and fight infections they have not been exposed to.It provides all the energy and nutrients that the infant needs for the first months of life, and it continues to provide up to half or more of a child’s nutritional needs during the second half of the first year, and up to one-third during the second year of life ( Breastfeeding, 2018). Colostrum which is the thick first milk that you make during pregnancy and just after birth. This milk is very rich in nutrients and includes antibodies to protect the baby from infections.Colostrum also helps your newborn’s digestive system to grow and function. Your baby gets only a small amount of colostrum at each feeding, because the stomach of a newborn infant is tiny and can hold only a small amount Women’s Health, 2018).However, I will also help the mother how to properly breastfeed her newborn. Ensuring proper latching is important in order to make sure the infant is getting adequate amount of breastmilk. After I explain to the mother the importance of breastfeeding , and how to breastfeed, I will assess her knowledge on how to breastfeed with return demonstration. I will also ask the new mother for further questions.
